Boxing Day

December 26th, the 2nd day of Christmas is Boxing Day. It was also celebrated as the Feast of Stephen, honoring the first martyr to give his life for his belief in Jesus as the Son of God. There are many lost traditions of this day. One thing that is nice to do with children is decorate or wrap a shoebox in gift paper. Cut a hole in top and have each family member write on a 3 x 5 card something they hope to happen in the coming year. Then on Epiphany, open the box and read what everyone is hoping for or asking God to do. Epiphany marks the end of Christmastide. It is a day to reflect on the hope that Christ brought to the world. Traditionally, it is also called 3 Kings Day to celebrate their journey to see Jesus and the hope he offers the whole world, and not just the Jews.
